Saturday, September 19, 2009 at 3:43AM Ooh La La: Designer 3-D Glasses On the Way
Hey, here's something silly: Real D, one of the companies betting on its 3-D technology to catch on with audiences, is developing designer 3-D glasses compatible with its format. Here's what that means: You'd never have to wear free, disposable plastic glasses in the dark again.
Variety reports that the Real D hopes to have the glasses ready to go in time for Avatar this December. Among the brands tying into the project: Gucci. As I said, here's something silly. Oh - prespcription 3-D glasses will also be in the offing sooner or later, but not immediately.
Real D is not done making me shake my head. One other option is "toddler-sized" 3-D glasses, which I hope for the pure surreality of it all will also be designed by Gucci. Said Real D head Michael Lewis, "That's been one of the issues we've had with glasses, sizing wise, so we'll be offering that as well."
Now, first of all, can we as a society stop reducing and abusing our language to the point that phrases like "with regard to sizing" become "sizing wise"? Damn it, that bothers me. Almost as much as two-year-olds getting 3-D glasses. What an obscene waste of money that is. That's like putting them in a car seat with lumbar support.
