We received a couple new shots from Rob Marshall's Nine tonight, and
I know there will be some readers who automatically roll their eyes because it's a musical. "As if
people spontaneously break out in song," goes the familiar argument. "Eff you," is my immediate
reply, preceding an explanation about how there's no such thing as a Jedi, so watch your
presumptions.

Musicals are no more or less believable than science fiction, chick flicks, or superhero movies.
Just because you don't like the songs doesn't make the movies invalid. In this case, we're looking
at one of the ten Best Picture nominees, but I don't believe that's because it's the token
musical.
For one thing, the original stage musical has a sterling reputation, it's based on the Fellini
film 8 1/2 (which didn't get a Best Picture nomination), and it has probably the best cast
of any movie all year: Seven of the top eight names have been nominated for an Oscar, six of them
have trophies. Daniel-Day Lewis leads a cast that is loaded with talent - Marion Cotillard,
Penelope Cruz, Judi Dench, Sophia Loren, Nicole Kidman, Kate Hudson, and Fergie. Trails off there
at the end, I'll admit, but still.

You might think I'm the one being presumptuous by already nominating this for Best Picture, but if
you saw the trailer a few months ago, you know this has all the other ingredients outside of the
musical numbers that the Oscar voters look for. Plus, as we've documented several times, ten Best
Picture nominees is a really watered down collection of movies, and I have a hard time believing
that this movie with this cast coming out at the end of November will be out in the cold when the finalists are announced.

No Colin your not presumptuous at all...
This will definitely and definitively be nominated for Best Picture, and by the way things have looked thus far, I SAY IT HAS A PRETTY GOOD CHANCE IF NOT BETTER, OF WINNING!
-which I would totally be satisfied with...
Not only that but some actors, could get nominations as well, I mean the music is fantastic, anyone who truly admires scores of films they will love this as well....
Im so looking forward to this!!!
I wanna hear DDLewis SING!!!!!

Not into musicals one iota, but Daniel Day Lewis could get me into a seat.
