Can you believe it's been almost seven years since Old School was released? I think you can make the case that it saved Vince Vaughn's career and may have legitimized Will Ferrell as a comedic star, and almost immediately, there was sequel talk. Though we didn't ever get a follow-up, Vaughn, Ferrell, and Luke Wilson kept popping up in each other's movies, so we didn't really need one.

Not that we need an Old School 2 now, especially with Ferrell developing a second Anchorman movie, but apparently there's still a chance we'll see it. Vaughn told Collider, "If there is something that’s really great that inspires you than I’d be open to anything, of course.
"I sort of feel like there are a lot of good ideas and different movies to do so I’d definitely like to and look forward to doing something with [director Todd Phillips] again, but whether it’s Old School 2 or not I can’t say we’ve really talked about that recently."
Vaughn also said that while there is a story for the sequel and it's "actually pretty good," he's not real big on returning to the scene of the crime anyway, which may not be the hold-up in this case specifically, but could help explain why we're also not close to another Swingers or Wedding Crashers.

"It’s funny, when I started from Swingers I was then in a sequel of a movie I was never in - The Lost World - but a lot of the character films that I had done had always been some talk or want of it. I’m not opposed to it, if it has its own individual story and reason for being told. I don’t know why…I can’t find my way in if it’s just, 'oh that was a good idea and so here’s an okay idea that goes with it.'"Well I guess I'll stop working on my Fred Claus 2 petition. Sigh... I have used this same litmus test with Ferrell and I think it applies to a lot of comic actors. When the talk of Anchorman 2 really intensified, I said it was preferable to some other damn lazy comedy he and Adam McKay would come up with. They know what worked, what didn't, and what would be expected. The same goes for Vaughn, and while I haven't seen Couples Retreat, he hasn't exactly been hitting home runs lately. So if it came down to Old School 2 or another misery-themed Christmas comedy, I'd want more Old School.
