Friday, September 25, 2009 at 8:25AM 'Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant' Featurette
We're a month away from Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant, an adaptation of the popular book series by Darren Shan, who is featured (as a teenager) in the film. This is the first movie in what Universal obviously hopes will be a franchise, and who could blame them?

Sure, it's aimed at teens, but there's some wonderful dark comedy going on here courtesy of John C. Reilly that could help set it apart from the other films in this area. Oh, and Harry Potter doesn't have a bearded Salma Hayek.
Speaking of Potter, those films are, of course, the model for something like this, so we'll see how well this can do at the end of October. I have to admit, I'm more interested in this than I was leading up to Sorcerer's Stone. To be sure, any movie, much less young adult franchises, would be lucky to turn out as well as the Potter films, but as I said, Cirque du Freak seems to brush off some of the comparisons just by being odd.
Here's a new featurette that takes us behind the scenes and shows a little more new footage:
The Vampire's Assistant is directed by Paul Weitz, whose brother Chris directed The Golden Compass. Let's hope Paul has a little better luck at the box office.

I am So excited abot this movie. My friend is taking me to see it. The only thing that bugs me is the rumoured relationship between Madame Truska and Larten Crepsley. I mean ICK!! Hopefully it doesn't overshadow the rest of the fim. I swear though if they kiss at some point....I'm going totey to hold back my gag reflex.
