Despite her earlier objections to returning to the franchise that made her a star, Neve Campbell has been added to the cast of Scream 4, according to Dimension Films boss Bob Weinstein.

There are other updates, too, like Spy Kids 4 in 3-D and remakes of Children of the Corn, Short Circuit, and An American Werewolf in London. Plus, in keeping with the current Cronenberg fascination, a remake of Scanners is coming in 3-D. That's cool, though, because what good is an exploding head without the sensation that it could land in your lap?
Back to Scream Quatro: Shooting on the first leg of the triple crown will get underway in April or May, and Wes Craven is still penciled in as the director, but he hasn't signed anything. Said Weinstein of the glut of familiar blood-curdling titles on his agenda, "I'm going back to doing what I do best."
The same could be said of Campbell, whose non-Scream career is barely worth mentioning. It was always curious to me why she wouldn't want to be a part of this film, because unlike other scream queens like Jamie Lee Curtis, there was never that next phase of Campbell's career, so it wouldn't even seem like she was "going back" to something she had left behind.
That's not really an indictment of Campbell's ability, because Hollywood chews up actors and especially actresses all the time and it's difficult to change expectations, but the truth is the big roles never came her way outside of the franchise, and it's not like the Scream movies are a personal embarrassment to anybody. The first one's great and the second one's OK. So I'm glad she'll be back. It gives the whole thing a little more symmetry.

Maybe there will be a scene where the characters discuss how actresses who were once stars come back from a dead carreer and agree to do nudity for the first time just to get publicity. This scene is done in the shower or locker room completely nude, of course.
Or maybe she'll just do the Drew Barrymore thing and get killed in the first scene. Either way, smart move for a dead carreer.
Watched Cougar Town the other day and Courtney Cox has still got it. I have hopes that this may be a revisit that doesn't suck.
Side note: So they are remaking An American Werewolf in London? Great!
Because the only thing that brilliant Oscar-winning transformation scene needed was a little CGI to clean it up! And that ironic "Blue Moon" playing in the background? No way! We need some hip-hop or techno!
