Beyonce Linked to 'A Star is Born' Rebirth

I find it hard not to like Beyonce Knowles. Though I'm not a huge fan of her music, as undeniable as the hook in "Single Ladies" is, she's certainly got plenty of talent and seems to be fairly well-grounded, at least on the Kanye West scale of such things. And her ventures into acting haven't been disappointing - Good but not great in Dreamgirls, great but trapped in a movie nobody saw called Cadillac Records...and I didn't see Obsessed, so I can't judge that one. So while I have no problem with her landing movie roles, I do wish she'd stop singing in her films. She's been linked to a new version of A Star is Born, which has been done a few times before but not in the last 30 years. The story follows an upcoming female star who falls for a much bigger male star but over the course of their careers, she becomes Barbra Streisand and he Kris Kristofferson. This new film has already gone through several revisions, and The Hollywood Reporter says relative newcomer Will Fetters will take the project from here. Warner Bros. believes that the 24-hour news cycle - blogs, cable news, etc. - makes this story one that's prime for a modernization, and I have to agree. We live in a culture now that makes stars out of people with no discernable talent other than wanting to be famous. Somehow or other, people know who the hell Jon Gosselin is. My hope with this project is not that it embraces that culture but rather that it skewers it for being a feeding frenzy. As for Beyonce, she's only in the rumor stage right now, but this is the sort of thing she's proven she can do well. I just wish she'd prove she could do something else well at this stage.
