First Trailer for 'A Nightmare on Elm Street' Remake

My advice, not that there's any reason to listen to me, was to do a Nightmare on Elm Street prequel at this point, especially with Jackie Earle Haley on board as Freddy Krueger. In the brand new trailer, it looks like we get a hint of that backstory before Krueger becomes that horror icon we know and love.

Speaking of the trailer, it's actually good. There's a great shot of the razored glove emerging at one point, and in general, it looks like they've done Wes Craven proud. I always really liked Nightmare, based on newspaper accounts of a bizarre series of seemingly unrelated sleeping fatalities among a community of Cambodian children in Los Angeles in the late 1970s. Craven took that inspiration and made a really good story, although the film is clearly dated now.
So give the new trailer a look:
Freddy's voice is a new twist, and that might take a little while to get used to, but I thought there were a few good things about the Platinum Dunes Friday the 13th earlier this year, and since this is much better source material, maybe the remake can follow that formula. But I'd hate to get my hopes up.

Mmmm... sounds like Rorschach to me but I think and I can put that reasonably out of mind. The vast majority who never saw Watchmen or Englund in this role should have no problem accepting this new Krueger's voice. That Haley's slightly smaller than Englund was also apparent to me as I watched the trailer. Though that isn't much of a deal breaker the face might be. From the glimpses we see in the trailer, Haley's Krueger seems to lack that humorously evil look that Englund had. Part of the fun of Freddy was that smile which made him stand out from his peers and owed quite a bit to Englund's own looks. Hopefully Haley cracks his own delightfully wicked grin or this could turn out to be just another expressionless paint-by-numbers slasher.
I think they're eschewing the humorously evil look, as you rightly put it. I remember one of the producers talking about the face being a little more harrowing.
Trailer looks good. The Freddy Makeup looks bad. I agree with Asana, Freddy was the badass with a mouth, and that smile and laugh is Freddy's tradmark.
When I saw the first part of that trailor I started to really come around with what you said Colin about a prequel might be pretty good, a psychological thiller could of been great if done right. But at the end of the day I dont trust hollywood to do the story justice, so I say this is the way to go.
Pretty good trailer... except for the first words including Michael Bay. I hope its better than the F13th remake which had the gloss of a music video, the jokes of a bad highschool comedy and the scares of... well no scares really.
Good first act, though.
For a second there I thought "Freddy" was gonna start talking about How "some Folks call it a sling Blade, but he just calls it a Kaiser blade..." then he goes off and eats some french fried potaters & potted meat.
The trailer actually looks good, I'm just a little confused why he has the Karl from Sling Blade voice. and I'm glad they kept the whole scene with Tina on the bed, that was one of the scariest scenes when I first saw it.
Yeah, it's kinda annoying that they have to make everything so serious these days, probably the main reason why people love Freddy so much (Robert Englund) is that he is known to have a demented sense of humour; you were supposed to be scared of him but you found yourself laughing at his remarks. If Haley's version is mo0re serious and less humourous than Roberts, Freddy Krueger fans from the original filns aren't gonna be pleased.
I think they've just destroyed my last hope for good remake . thank you bay, and the rest of you unoriginal fuckheads, cashing in on my childhood scares.Too me , there is only ONE Jason ,Freddy,Michael ,and Leatherface.
I'm glad they're making Freddy darker and cutting out the humor. I think the new makeup serves to up Freddy's creepy factor. Out of the old NOES movies, my favorite was the original because the sequels made a mockery of the Freddy character. As the sequels progressed, he couldn't make a move without first cracking a "one liner". I hope this movie is dark and disturbing.
