Monday, September 28, 2009 at 4:06PM New Cities Announced for 'Paranormal Activity'
According to the new weekend actuals, Paranormal Activity made quite a bit of noise for
a movie in 12 theaters. It took in just under $80,000, according to Paramount, which was good enough for the
sixth-best per-screen average all weekend. Not bad. The studio said recently it was "bombarded" with nearly a
quarter-million requests on the film's official site to open in more theaters.

That's easy to track since Paramount put a giant "Demand It" button on the site, and it means that the extremely low
budget horror movie will open in more cities this weekend, and midnight shows on Friday might be available for
those, as well. I loved Paranormal Activity; it's one of the most singularly effective movies all year, and
within that genre, it really shows you how much time and effort is wasted on gore-fests that simply don't engage the
audience on any level. We need more of this kind of thing.
Here's the rundown of the cities where you can catch the film beginning this Friday:

New York - AMC Empire
Chicago - AMC River East
