Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at 1:06PM 'Shutter Island' Graphic Novel Coming in January
The Dennis Lehane novel Shutter Island has been turned into a new movie directed by Martin Scorsese. We were originally supposed to get that film this weekend, but with the expense of marketing films for Oscars - and with Paramount having strategically placed The Lovely Bones in December - the thought process is that all the eggs are in Peter Jackson's basket and Shutter Island is now the only game in town on February 19th.

But before we get there, Lehane's novel will be spun into a graphic novel, the first time any of his works have been inked. Tokyopop will unveil the comic on January 5th in the US, and it'll run you about $22 and is a full-color, 128-page adaptation.
If you're wondering if this will look like Scorsese's film, I'm going to say no. French artist Christian de Metter, whom ICV2 says is "known for his evocative painterly art," first did this adaptation for the French publisher Casterman.
Shutter Island stars Leonardo DiCaprio as an FBI agent looking into they mysterious disapperance of a patient at a mental institution situated off the coast of Massachusetts. Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley, Michelle Williams, Max von Sydow, Jackie Earle Haley, and Emily Mortimer co-star.

Good artist. It's spooky how the guy's eyes are open in the reflection!
