'Big Momma's House 3' To Rewrite American Cinema

Well, if you thought Hollywood had already scraped the bottom of the barrel, you were sorely mistaken. Granted, not as sorely mistaken as someone who will pay money to see Big Momma's House 3 expecting to find 90 minutes of entertainment, but that's a hard level of disappointment to match.

I guess I'm the dope, but I thought Madea pretty much killed the guy-dressed-as-a-grandma bit for everybody else. Perhaps, though, the success of those films makes this seem more attractive to the outside-the-box thinkers at Fox, who have hired Randi Mayem Singer to deliver what's sure to be an all-important script.

I hadn't heard of Singer, but it turns out she co-wrote Mrs. Doubtfire, making her a perfect candidate for the drag sub-genre.

Variety doesn't say whether or not Martin Lawrence will return, but I'd be surprised if he had enough dignity to pass it up. After all, he did willingly make Rebound. Since this one's coming straight out of Fox and not a subsidiary, I doubt they'd march forward without him, unless they're going really low budget or if he tries to go for too much money.

The first two movies, of course, turned profits, and that's the true test for a lot of these franchises. However, we've seen that sequels to awful movies have been met with bad results in the past couple of years. A prime example was The Pink Panther 2, which was a mild upgrade over the first embarrassment but did very poorly by comparison.

One other factor is that by the time the threequel comes out, we'll probably be five years removed from Big Momma's House 2, and that installment made less than the first movie, so whatever forecast Fox is looking at sure doesn't seem like it's rooted in reality.

OK, WHY is this Martin Lawrence revival taking place, and what town hall must we go to in order to protest is/shout it down?

I hate to say this but it could be worse...we could be getting Black Knight 2...no wait, I stand corrected, it has gotten worse. We're getting a Wild Hogs 2. Something tells me we'e going to see fat naked dude action again.
