Friday, September 4, 2009 at 4:32PM Celebrate 50 Years of 'The Twilight Zone' Next Month
We're about a month away from a very cool event at Ithaca College in New York, one that should be of keen interest to fans of science fiction, the history of television, and just damn good writing. The college hosts the Rod Serling Conference, and Serling, of course, created and wrote The Twilight Zone. He also taught at Ithaca from 1967 - 1975.

Naturally, the Rod Serling Archives are also housed at the college, and this year's Conference marks the 50th anniversary of The Twilight Zone, and since Serling wrote well over half of the episodes, it stands to reason that this will be a pretty good collection of all things Serling.
The event will take place on Friday and Saturday, October 2nd and 3rd, and you can get all the specific details at Ithaca College's Serling page. There are about 20 sessions at this year's conference, ranging from adapting The Twilight Zone to the graphic novel format to a discussion of his legendary teleplay Requiem for a Heavyweight (Serling himself was a boxer).
There's also the presentation of this year's screenwriting award winners, and I'm sure just knowing there's a contest like this will be of interest to some of our readers.
I wish I could attend; it would be a great geeky weekend. But if you're interested in checking it out, there's reservation information on the site, as well.
