Second Trailer for 'The Road' Offers Little Change

There's not much difference between the first trailer for The Road and the new one, which premiered recently at Apple. However, since that first trailer - released a couple months ago - was pulled offline from some servers, so consider this the replacement.

The early festival reviews are not coronating the film as one of the year's best, although the same could not be said of Cormac McCarthy's dark and internalized novel. We wondered how that book could possibly work with what we're seeing in the trailers, which kind of paints The Road as an action movie (explosions, gunfights, etc.), but again, the reviews all commented on how atmospheric the film is. That's closer to the book than the trailer.

But if you haven't had a chance to see the trailer yet, we thought this would be a pretty good time for it, since the film is only about a month away and it's starting to find festival audiences. So take a look. I think, if nothing else, John Hillcoat has captured the bleak visual essence of McCarthy's book, and with a cast including Viggo, Charlize, Duvall, and Guy Pearce, I have a hard time believing this is truly average.

Yeah, I get why they have to put more action in the trailer, although it is a little misleading if you haven't read it. I'm still excited for the movie, though, but I do hope it walks the right side of the line between accurate depiction of the book and literal portrayal. If it's the latter, which the early indications seem to hint at, then they've gone about it the wrong way.
