Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at 3:28AM Screen Gems Already Rebooting 'Resident Evil'
It might be surprising to some of you that a fourth Resident Evil movie is already getting underway, so you may want to brace yourself for this: They're already
working on a fifth one! No foolin'.

Bloody Disgusting - always reliable - has taken the extra step to confirm that Screen Gems is
aiming for a reboot of the series, which for the time being is called Resident Evil Begins.
The why behind all of this is two-fold:
A) Screen Gems doesn't have a lot of franchise capabilities at the moment, and even though these
films have done middling business in the US, they've been very good performers overseas and on
home video.
B) As much as Screen Gems wants to keep Resident Evil going, it's likely that Milla
Jovovich will not continue to play Alice forever, so rebooting the series now gives it another
direction to go while not completely starting from scratch.
I can certainly see the point, although we're rebooting now less than a decade into the franchise.
But if Lionsgate can crank out a Saw movie every 12 months, why can't Screen Gems do its
little money grab with Resident Evil?
That's the devil's advocate side of the argument. The other side goes like this: Nobody will buy
this series without Jovovich and they'll see right through the re-boot idea as precisely what it
sounds like.
As for what we should expect to see, Bloody Disgusting says the fifth Resident Evil movie
is a considerable way off, but that it could"redo the story of a special military unit who fights
a powerful, out-of-control supercomputer and hundreds of scientists who have mutated into flesh-
eating creatures after a laboratory accident."
Sounds OK, I guess, but the big question is whether or not the audience will go for it. It's not
like the series has grown in popularity, and the longer it goes the less likely that becomes.
Plus, reboots are tricky, especially when there's no breath between the first series and the one
designed to replace it.

I say take the story lines from the video games and stick to them, they are actually much more decent then the pieces of crap they have turn the movie series into. The movies aren't even close to the games story lines, its a real shame.

I agree.
They killed Res Evil with the birth of the Alice character..Those movies dissapointed me more than the Final Fantasy Spirits Within movie...I guess we cant stop them from butchering good stories to make a dollar.
A reboot would be greatly appreciated but I do not think two running series can co-exist. Get rid of Alice and bring back the originals for some ass kicking. I will conclude by saying "Alice Must DIE!!"
Morra logo Alice malditaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
