Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at 4:32PM Cameron Wants Us to What the 'Avatar' Characters?
I've seen the Avatar trailer, and if this is really what James Cameron wanted, then he failed. Because - and I don't know how else to say this - I don't want to have sex with the blue chick.

Concept artist Jordu Schell is responsible for the final look of the Na'Vi and he explained to io9 exactly what The King of the World wanted that look to convey. "Well, he wanted them to be very beautiful. And I do believe that, at some point, he said something to the effect of...the audience has to want to fuck her," said Schell.
"I mean, Jim is very plain in his language." Indeed.
"So I made something that, I don't know if I really particularly wanted to fuck it," the artist continued, "but it was certainly a beautiful alien."
Maybe Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) comes across more sexily in 3-D, but to me she kind of has a weird, bluish Jocelyn Wildenstein vibe. I certainly wasn't all Jessica Rabbit about her. But it worked for Cameron, who Schell admits has a type.
"He definitely wanted it — because he really prefers women that are kind of athletic, and buff and stuff like that, so I, you know, designed something with big hands and feet, a big presence that felt really big and strong."But if were left up to the artist, Neytiri would have a whole different look. "I mean, I would have sculpted, I don't know, Gretchen Mol or something." All kidding aside, that really is a great article over at io9, and it's not the sort of coverage you normally see. We did something similar when we interviewed Benjamin Button effects supervisor Eric Barba on Oscar weekend, and it's really enlightening to get that kind of perspective from time to time.

Come on Colin!!! You havent seen the film yet and it is in 3D I mean you never know, ignorance is not bliss, especially in the movie watching biz.
Now I didnt come off really wanting to "DO" them, but I mean my mind can change....
LOL
GREAT POST!!! HAHAHA IT's PROBABLY THE FUNNIEST POST EVER!!!!
Very enlightening it is!
Can we say "fuck" on this site now? 'Cause I fucking hated New in Town.
(Stamp of approval)
what no "Furries" to support this idea
there is an entire subculture of anime that is all about getting it on with animals that look like people
very very similar.
Blue aliens come off as really un-sexy even in porn. People usually root for healthy stuff and blue is the colour of the dead.
Carv, you actually saw New In Town? Wow...you must have been "viewing under the influence of girlfriend"
Great post. Friggin' hilarious. On a serious note though, has anyone else noticed that ever since we started getting peaks of this movie, what we would mostly get a peak at was of the pic at at the top of the page? I'm talking about the up close shot of the Na'Vi character that appears to be the one Zoe plays. I'm basing that off the fact that the Na'Vi in that picture/poster looks to be feminine. Anyway, my point is that looking at the Na'Vi from that angle in this shot, its as if the eyes are what we're meant to concentrate on. Even when the full picture was released, the eyes are what still captured the viewers'....uhhh...well....eye. And you have to admit that it looks like the eyes have a sedcutive and sultry effect. Maybe that's how Cameron is trying to draw us in??? Ooooooooor...maybe I'm just a sick wannabe Na'Vi fucker.
E, I did see it under the influence of girlfriend, and on DVD rather than in a theater (thank the Maker). But two wrongs certainly didn't make a right. Oh, and Mr. Woodcock made me want to punch a writer and director clean in the mouth.
