Monday, January 18, 2010 at 12:43PM First Official Image from Nolan's 'Inception'
Over at The Los Angeles Times, there's a new article with old quotes from Christopher Nolan about Inception. They're not really old quotes - he's not pushing Insomnia or anything - but we featured them here several days ago. It's Nolan talking about the influences for the film and how the movie is expansive in four dimensions and all that. But there is a new photo in the article, the first official Inception production still, and here it is.

We still don't know a whole lot about the plot, the themes, or the characters. I'm fine with that, completely and totally fine. In fact, I wish I were in a position to know less about every film I see going in, but it's kind of impossible in this arena. Studios don't want you going in completely in the dark, because they think you'll never go. That's why there are trailers and poster and other advertising. But Warner Bros., perhaps because Nolan is playing with house money right now, is letting the curiosity about Inception do the work for the movie.
For example, in Cinema Blend's story featuring the same photo of Leonardo DiCaprio, the question is raised, "Are there clues in the paintings?" Clues to what? We don't know anything! There might as well be clues in Leo's necktie.
The Times captions this photo by describing Inception as a "corporate espionage film," but the same could be said of Duplicity, Michael Clayton, and The Informant. Those movies, however, don't have blocks of skyscrapers rolling themselves up over the lead characters, so there's one slight difference.
It's a fun game to play, I guess, trying to figure out what's what. But I said when a foreign language trailer came out a few weeks ago that I think it's better to go in blind. However, even if they keep showing us trailers and images for the movie, there's no guarantee it'll ever add up to anything substantive. I hope not; for a change, I'd like to see a movie that completely shellshocks an audience while they're in the theater.

I completely agree. I'm avoiding any spoilers that are going to come out because I want a clean-slate.
Maybe Leo is in somebody's nightmare looking for that "rewrite all the rules" idea.
I'm trying to stay away from anything unofficial about the movie, but I'm glad they're giving us official trailers & pictures to look at. Six months is a long time to wait.
I agree, see as little as possible of movies before going to them
thanks for share with us.
