Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at 12:20PM Entertaining Red Band Trailer for 'MacGruber'
A couple months ago, I guess, there was a review of a test screening of MacGruber, and it was overwhelmingly positive. We didn't cover it here because it wasn't one of the usual sources for that kind of review and it was suspiciously dripping with praise, and perhaps you read it and kind of felt the same way.

Now there's a Red Band trailer, mostly for the language, and MacGruber looks - shock - like a complete movie and not just an SNL skit come to life. That's probably the best thing about it, especially considering how rushed the production was. But Will Forte and Kristen Wiig have a pretty good cast to bounce off of here, with Val Kilmer, Powers Boothe, and Ryan Phillippe all laying it on appropriately thick to sell their stereotypical roles with as much earnestness as possible.
If the best thing about this trailer is that it makes MacGruber look more like Wayne's World than Mary Catherine Gallagher: Superstar, the next best thing might be that well over half the jokes in the trailer work. Fifteen seconds, MacGruber...

Pepsuber opens on April 23rd. Hit? Miss? Let us know your thoughts. Certainly, it's a lot better than I expected.

Definite miss, though I don't base the quality of the movie solely on the trailers.
This, Hot Tub Time Machine and Cop Out interest me, but nothing about the trailers scream "breakout comedy hit" to me.
Hot Tub Time Machine and Cop Out interest you...WHY????
Ummm probably because they look funny. I'm with Vince
Cop Out? You're easily entertained, then, or a Smith apologist. That looks like total shit.
I didn't laugh AT ALL watching this trailer.
I have to agree with "WTF" and Colin Boyd in this little comments discussion.
I'm interested in this flick. Is anyone entertained by the scetch on SNL? If not, then you might not understand where the humor lies. It looks like they're going to be able to sustain an entire 90 minutes of story here. Again, I'll probably check this out.
Yeah, Colin, sorry. I love Kevin Smith. I'd take multiple bullets for the guy.
Though I can easily admit that it doesn't look good, the prospect of Kevin Smith at the helm still interests me.
ok, that doesn't look so bad actually.
