Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at 10:47PM Mel Gibson Won't Appear in 'Mad Max 4'
Mel Gibson is still co-producing Mad Max 4: Fury Road, but he says he has no intention of being in George Miller's film. If you're not well-versed in these matters, Mad Max is the role that opened the door to Hollywood for Gibson back in the early 1980s and whether or not it's a coincidence that Miller is moving forward with the fourth one after Gibson ended his eight-year hiatus from acting doesn't really enter into it, as far as Mad Mel is concerned.

What about a cameo? "No, not at all," Gibson is quoted as saying by Dark Horizons. So we know he's not in the movie and this effectively quashes any lingering suggestion that Mel might do a voiceover or appear in bookends or something. You know, it's not like Gibson is one to shy away from speaking his mind, so I'd take this to the bank. Unless, of course, Mel happened to be driving by your bank. Then I'd wait a bit.
We heard over the weekend that the quantifiably hot Teresa Palmer has a role in the film, and that Charlize Theron and British actor Tom Hardy are also in. Trouble is, Miller nor anyone else has confirmed that (even though we sure thought both were a done deal. When asked, Hardy said "it's strongly coming my direction," but stopped short of saying he was the guy.
So now, at least, we have a confirmation of something. Which is actually a confirmation of nothing.
Meanwhile, Gibson is out promoting next weekend's Edge of Darkness, his first leading role since Signs. And then he's got several other projects either wrapped up or about to go into production, so he's certainly back. He's just not Mad Max anymore.
