"People think I'm arrogant but I don't have that kind of hubris," says James Cameron about the immovable object that is Avatar in reference to its chances to topple his own Titanic on the box office charts. (Hint: It will.)

In part of what we hope is a very lengthy series of roundtable interviews conducted by The Los Angeles Times, Cameron discusses the numbers, and admits that he never saw this coming. Frankly, even if people supposed Avatar would do very well, nobody thought it would hit half a billion in the US in a month. That's spooky business.
The reason I want to see more of these is because of the talent assembled - Cameron, Kathryn Bigelow, Lee Daniels, Jason Reitman, and Quentin Tarantino. Now that's a diverse group, and of course, they've all had pretty good years. In fact, with the possible exception of Daniels, these are your five Best Director nominees. So this is just the first in what we hope is tons more of these things:
