Saturday, January 23, 2010 at 1:44AM Producers Considering Another Oscar Host?
I wonder if this is true or if it's just a contingency plan.
Deadline Hollywood reports that producers of the Academy Awards
might supplement the show's two hosts,
Alec Baldwin and
Steve Martin, by adding a third performer. Nikki Finke wonders, "How much you wanna bet it's
someone younger and/or female and/or ethnically/racially diverse?"

I'd says got the first two right. If they're looking at anyone other than
Tina Fey, then I'll be floored. It has nothing to do with me liking Fey or
anything, just that she has worked with Martin before and, of course, she's completely comfortable with Baldwin. She can also write her own material
(or material for her co-hosts) and might actually be a reason to tune in.
Of course, we're not stupid, so we know why people will tune in: Avatar. At least that's the case at this moment. Will people be sick of it
in six weeks? In most cases like this, yes, but there seems to be very little burn where James Cameron's movie is concerned. So clearly, Oscar
ratings should be up this year just to see if it wins everything. And that would make an extra host superfluous.
You know what else makes an extra host pretty worthless? Steve Martin has done this before, and he's much better on a stage these days than he is in
a movie. He should need the help. I still don't get Baldwin as a host, really. Funny guy, quite a presence, but hosting can be a different deal. Then there's the other thing: Three hosts might as well be no hosts. Personally, they'd be better off with just Tina Fey, if we're playing that game. Of course, that wouldn't happen because she's not well known outside the US. (An episode of 30 Rock that aired in Germany this year got a 0.0 rating).
I think it's much ado about nothing, although maybe the producers think two old white guys are just too edgy. Yeah, I know, but they're Oscar producers. The show certainly doesn't need the extra weight but again, as far as the contingency plan goes, I'd vote Fey.

My vote for Tina Fey as well...
This whole idea is dumb though, leave it alone, 2 of the best in the bizness are already casted...
Oscar viewership should be up, the Globes were 14% higher than last year, I would think Oscars would follow suit.
Nice little Shakespeare throw-in at the end there
