Thursday, January 28, 2010 at 6:01PM Trailer - 'Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps'
I expected a little more oomph out of the Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps trailer. Sounds good, the bit with Gordon Gekko (Michael Douglas) coming out of the joint works for me, but I had a feeling it might go somewhere. It never really does.

I suppose it sets a mood, though - the music hints at a pretty in-your-face presentation, which would be nice, and obviously, Gordon Gekko brings his own kind of vibe to the party. I have to say, the Shia LaBeouf casting doesn't strike me as a winner just yet. I know he's capable enough to pull it off, but based on this limited exposure I wasn't really a fan.
Oliver Stone does have a really good ensemble, though, including Josh Brolin, Carey Mulligan, Frank Langella, and Susan Sarandon, so there are still plenty of reasons to look forward to this. As sequels go, given the real-world events of the past couple of years, a Wall Street follow-up makes a ton of sense.

I wonder how this will play when it opens in April. Even though people want to see Wall Street types completely vilified, do they want to pay to see it? Iraq War movies haven't done very well, and while this is a different breed of cat, the same sentiment may creep in.

To tell you the truth, the trailer makes the movie look far better than I originally thought it was going to be. I don't think that it'll be a bad film, mostly because Oliver Stone really hasn't made a truly terrible film- I think he's incapable of making something inept. In the realm of way overdue sequels, it could either be the next Color of Money or it could be "so bad it's awesome" like Basic Instinct 2 . Either way, color me interested.
There is a moment with a horrible edit and dub bit of dialogue... "No matter how much money you have (mr gecko) you'll never be rich (switch scene). Why don't you start calling me gordon" Did they use a robot voice? I think it looks kind of silly.
Vince, did you see Alexander? "Inept" might be the exact word I'd use.
I think Colin Farrell was what destroyed that movie. Not that he sucks as an actor, but that he should not play a blond military genious from the Roman era. You know...to piggy back on your Edge of Darkness review...some stars have "it" no matter the material, well Colin did not have "any of that" in this film. Given a better actor for that genre, could have made for an impressive movie. I think the uncut version of Alexander was a better film, but even that's a stretch I guess.
guys Oliver Stone is a subpar director & thats being very generous lol
I think the guy is lame his work aint that good top films are JFK & Born on the 4th of July & those were about 20+ years ago

Colin Farrell was definitely not the problem in that film, sure maybe he didn't fit but he tried admirably in my opinion, what was the problem was the script, direction, dumb narration, factual errors, Oh & Angelina Jolie's accent was a piece of %&*% so yeahhh
Hopefully somebody will reboot that film & make the story right b/c Alexander the man was an epic figure & Stone really f-ed it all up
You do make a compelling arguement Sean. Still think Colin is just not a fit for that genre, personal taste I suppose.
Gosh, this trailer did nothing for me. Why don't people just save their money instead of giving it to Shia?
