Sunday, January 3, 2010 at 3:19AM Marvel Boss: 'Thor' "Redefines" Comic Book Movies
Kevin Feige, President of Production at Marvel, reflected on what has to be the biggest decade in the company's history in an interview with - shock - Marvel.com. It really has been a huge ten years, but Feige has an eye on the future, specifically, next summer's Thor.

The 2011 film adaptation is possibly the most difficult big time Marvel character to successfully bring to the screen for a variety of reason, but Feige thinks they've really hit on something special with the Norse God. "To be honest the thing that I'm most excited about right now though, is the screen test we just finished for Thor," Feige said. "We've done some costume tests and watching the Asgardians walk onto the sound stage takes me back to that first time I saw the X-Men on the set all together in Toronto."
That's big talk, of course. But Asgard, which Feige specifically mentions, is the real sticking point for me. Yes, you can do it with CGI...but doesn't that also go for Galactus? They sure screwed that one up, and because I don't view Kenneth Branagh as a visual specialist as a director, the entire Asgardian plane is a little troublesome. So hearing that it's definitely a part of Thor (which it should be, by the way) gives us a little more to go on.
I have to say that Thor has cleared most of the other early hurdles. It's a really good cast, even if I'm still not convinced by Chris Hemsworth as Thor. But Branagh has pulled out all the stops for the rest of the cast. Perhaps that's why Feige remains so confident.
"We're really redefining the comic book genre and what a Marvel movie can be. It's going to be great," he says.

I would feel better if the whole first movie takes place in some mythic universe and you don't bring it to the modern world until the second or third movie. Then of course, it has to mesh with "The Avengers".
I'll see it when I see it.
