Saturday, January 9, 2010 at 3:10AM Nothing's Gonna Stop 'Mannequin' Remake Now
Did I miss something? I lived through all of the 1980s, cognizant of the movies of that era, and I do not understand the fascination with bringing many of these movies back. Short Circuit? What's with that? I get Footloose, doomed though it has been, and I can comprehend remaking The Karate Kid. But Mannequin?

I think Mannequin should stay right where it is: Permed hair, men's suit jackets with pushed-up sleeves and shoulder pads, and bad Starship records. You could explain its success by those things around it in the marketplace. I don't know how we get back there from here, almost 25 years later. Somewhere, however, Andrew McCarthy is pumping his fist thanks to the sudden nostalgia.
Moviehole says the remake will come to us courtesy of Gladden Entertainment, which many years ago also produced Weekend at Bernie's, so be on the lookout for more fun there as well as a second Andrew McCarthy fist pump. I don't want to jump the gun on that, but they're already committed to this bad idea, so what's one more in the grand scheme of things?
The original movie spawned a sequel, in which Kim Cattrall was replaced by Kristy Swanson. But by then, the magic had already died. It made a whopping $3.7 million in 1991.

...and bad Starship records
Are you implying there were good Starship records?
I actually loved this movie as a kid
