If you're like me, you felt relieved when the ending credits for "Ghost Rider" started rolling. Great concept, not so great execution. And, if you're like me, you rolled your eyes and groaned a bit when they announced a sequel. However, I stumbled upon some casting news that made me pay attention.

See why it got my attention?
Today, it was announced that Ciarin Hinds and Violante Placido were cast in the upcomming "Ghost Rider 2" film. Ciaran Hinds is best known for playing Julius Cesear in HBO's "Rome" series and alongside Daniel Day-Lewis in "There Will Be Blood" (yes, there were other people in that movie, even if we don't remember them). Violante Placido was in George Clooney's "The American."
Ciaran will be playing the Devil, and Violante will be playig the Devil's son's mom. Lucky guy...
If you're still reading this, and not stuck at Violante's picture, here's a picture of Ciaran Hinds. Just for consistency's sake.

I dunno' . Sometimes when they get the obligatory "origin story" out of the way, a comic book movie is kind of free to do some different things narratively. It still strikes me that Ghost Rider, The Punisher and Blade are three Marvel heroes that basically were inspired by the 70's exploitation era of movies and I wish - given Tarantino's revival of that era - that adaptations of these particular characters could have some of that same style and energy.
I'm a fan of origin stories (if done right), so I was disappointed with how "Ghost Rider" was presented. However, another thing that gives me hope for the sequel is that there might be a new director, so we'll see who they bring in for that.
rather see a sam elliot ghost rider story
but they can keep the hottie
It completely blows my mind that this is getting a sequel.
