Mr. Rodriguez heaps more on to his plate with the recent announcement that he will be directing the long awaited Sin City 2 after the completion of Spy Kids 4.
The news was revealed in a Facebook livechat yesterday afternoon where Rodriguez said, "Frank Miller and I are working on it. It's slated to be the next one, but if the script is not ready, then we'll have to move to the next one." The script has apparently been done since 2007. It was Rodriguez that thought it still needed more work.
There was no specific mention of what that "next one" could be, although he did slip in that his project Nervewracker, described as a futuristic action thriller, is, "still going to happen".
Not much more about plans for the highly stylized drama's sequel were discussed, except for the fact that Rodriguez plans to bring back Bruce Willis' character, Hartigan, who was killed in the first Sin City."I wanna bring him back for Sin City because he's so bad-ass." Hmmm, well, this should be interesting.
Sin City 2 is set to be released in 2012.

So 7 years later we get the sequel no one was clamoring for. I do love "Sin City" I do love Rodriguez's approach.
People WERE clamoring for it Mr. Draper, we just stopped clamoring for it after 2007 when we realized that the movie probably wasn't coming to fruition. 300 (stylistically and commercially) and a bunch of other comic book adaptations really stepped up the bar since the first Sin City released, so it'll take more than just dipping back in the well for this to be a success. I'll be watching it not as a fan of the first film (loved it the first time but it does not hold well at all) but as a big fan of Rodriguez's work in general.
