While no official replacement has yet been named, B.J. Novak, who writes for the show and plays Michael Scott's man-crush Ryan, has his heart set on one particular actor to play the role. Novak recently told the Associated Press that he wants Danny McBride to be the head of Dunder-Mifflin's Scranton branch.
McBride, who is perhaps best known for his roles in Pineapple Express and the HBO show Eastbound and Down, is an interesting choice for the job. If nothing else, he would certainly bring a different, edgier vibe to the show. I'm a fan of McBride and think the first season of Eastbound and Down in particular was absolutely hilarious, so I definitely think a Kenny Powers-esque boss could work on the show. However, if I'm being honest, I think the best decision would have been to end The Office this season instead of trying to go on without Carell.
So add McBride's name to the list of possible candidates, though we certainly have no way of knowing how much weight, if any, Novak's opinion carries with the powers that be.

I'm starting to think that Danny McBride is the funniest man alive. He seems like an odd choice for The Office though.
The second season of Eastbound and Down has been pretty great too.
This might just be me, but I'm kinda burnt out on Danny Mcbride. Granted, I don't watch Eastbound & Down but the last few movies he's been I should've liked way more than I did (that includes all of Jody Hill's stuff). Also, I don't necessarily see Danny Mcbride as a office corporate-type character, but it could work, he did good stuff in his subdued role in Up in the Air .
I really hope not, I don't think Danny McBride is a good choice for The Office, he's too loud and not as likeable as Steve Carell. I'd prefer to see Tim Allen replace Carell, there were rumours a while ago about Tim Allen wanting to get back into TV in 2011 and was suppsoedly in talks with Greg Daniels. McBride seems like a bad dirrection for the show to go,
I just wish they'd end it with this current season. Why ruin it by doing more, they're going to kill the show. I sense a replay of the final season of Scrubs.
