Monday, October 18, 2010 at 11:07PM New Trailer for 'The Fighter'
Despite a few "phoned in" performances, and one huge temper tantrum, I'm still a huge fan of Christian Bale. And since it seems Mark Wahlberg is coming into his own, I'm really looking forward to The Fighter. Unfortunately, the trailers have done little to support my excitement.

Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with the first trailer. It showed some good scenes, but it felt largely inspirational, almost like it was another Rocky movie. It tried to show some hardships, however with the soundtrack it felt like it there was no turmoil or daunting challenges to overcome. The new trailer changes that.
Now we see more of the struggles 'Irish' Mickey Ward (Wahlberg) and Dickie Eklund (Bale) had to overcome. It paints a much darker picture, giving the impression that things really might not be okay in this fighter's quest for glory. And this time the soundtrack, the slow escalating strings, seems to represent the increasing odds these men had in front of them. We may know the story, but it makes you think that it might not have that happy Hollywood ending.
The Fighter is directed by David O. Russell, and opens with a limited release on December 10th, followed by a wide release on the 17th.

Oscar buzz for Christian Bale anyone?
That was a great trailer.
Far superior to the first trailer
Agreed. I like the trailer much better than the first one I saw.
"Johnny Bad Ass" by The Big Lefthook should have been made.
Albert Ruddy, the Executive Producer of "The Godfather", "Million Dollar Baby", and 72 major motion pictures read and loved the book but "The Fighter" was in development.
I wish Mark and his fellow cast good luck...BUT!
I think the wrong movie was made
