Yes that was on purpose, the title has two question marks because the phrase "Ouija Board Movie" deserves one by itself. And although you might not be familiar with Pierre Morel, you are probably familiar with the movie he directed two years ago called Taken which I consider to be one of the most entertaining vengeance action films I've seen in a while. LA Times reports that the Taken director is the lead candidate for a Ouija Board movie.

Yup, you heard me right. A movie about a board game. You see, it used to be that filmmakers would have to come up with an unique idea and then the studios would need to put a ton of marketing behind it to drive awareness. However, in the last 5 years we've seen a great increase of films developed under known properties. Why spend marketing dollars when you already have an established audience for it? Makes perfect sense and frankly, I enjoy watching all those superhero movies because there is a concrete story to tell. In fact, I might venture to say that it might even be a good thing because studios spend less on marketing and more in the production of the movies itself. That being said, I thought the Facebook movie Social Network was a stretch, but I liked the fact that the movie was less about the social networking site and more about the founder's interesting story.
But a board game? Rather then bash it right away, I'll be honest and say that I haven't thought much about it and I'm at least curious how they would turn it into a movie. They got Tron: Legacy writers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis to pen it. So what will the movie be about?
According to producer Brad Fuller:
"A huge movie. That’s a big, big, big thing. … It’s more of a, like, Pirates of the Caribbean adventure story, with a Ouija board at the center of it. There are definitely horror elements, because it’s about Ouija and what happens from an Ouija board, but it’s a much bigger film. I would call it an action-adventure with horror elements.”
Er? So I guess that's what you say when the script isn't written and you have no idea what the movie will be about. So there you have it, the Ouija Board movie will be an Action-Adventure film with horror elements infused with the comedy and family feel of Pirates of the Carribean, oh and it's a board game.
