Saturday, October 30, 2010 at 3:04AM Another 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' Movie?
Okay, I get wanting to use name brand recognition to attract an audience. And I get the lure of an established franchise. But in this world of sequels and remakes, when do we get to stand up and say enough is enough? We need to seriously consider a march on Washington to restore sanity- oh wait, that's something else. A march on Hollywood?

Get ready for this one. The Jason Goes to Hell director Adam Marcus, along with Debra Sullivan, are apparently working on a new script that will pick up right where The Texas Chainsaw Massacre left off, then fast forward 35 years. Looks like they plan to keep it related to the original by using the idea of cannibalism, and keeping it related to those involved in the original.
But is this something we really want? How badly do we need to milk these name brands? Until there's no more cash to be squeezed? Or can we please just leave some of these films alone? Let's get some more original ideas, especially for our horror movies. I mean, Saw came out of nowhere some years ago, and developed a very successful franchise. And it was set up to be a chain of movies. Kinda. Same thing with Paranormal Activity, and the benefit of that movie was that it was very low budget. I don't mind sequels, but when a movie's time has come, let it rest fondly in our memories.

Agreed.
free hat!
The key thing is that it's low budget produced and if they think they can get a 20 million dollar weekend out of it, great. If it's not good enough for theatrical, they'll throw it on video where it'll make half that, but out of 1-3 million, they'll make paper.
