I was tempted to pick The Karate Kid as the new release of the week not because that movie was so great, but because this week's releases are pretty poor. In fact, you should probably rent one of the films we covered on last week's DVD New Release of the Week article.
Splice stars Adrian Brody and Sarah Polley as genetic engineers who specialize in splicing the DNA of animals to create new forms of life. They secretly conduct an experiment to splice a human and creates a superhuman creature that goes on a rampage through town. Here's an interview with Wired.com couple weeks ago that sums this movie up quite well:
Other movies releasing this week are Karate Kid which if you go in with the mind set that this movie won't compare to the original, you may be pleasantly surprised. Agora starring Rachel Wiesz, Nightmare on Elm Street which is pretty much "what you see is what you get" round out the top releases this week.
The reason why I chose splice is that I'm personally biased towards Horror flicks because I think its tough to get good reviews on this genre of films (this one received 74% on RT), and the movie only did $17 million at the box which means most likely you haven't seen it.
Overall, a good week to watch something in the theaters rather than your living room.
