Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at 12:02PM Dreamworks Eyeing 'Halo' Movie?
Last month, Microsoft mentioned it was still interested in making a Halo movie. That was before Halo:Reach was released on September 14th, and made a cool $200 million on it's first day.

Now it seems that Dreamworks Pictures is interested in making a Halo movie, after Universal Pictures and Fox both previously dropped the ball, especially after it was reported that Universal dropped around $12 million on adapting the games into a movie.
Dreamworks is more interested in the novels based on the games. Stuart Beattie, who helped write scripts for Pirates of the Carribean trilogy and G. I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, has written a script based on the novel "Halo: The Fall of Reach." His hope is to get three Halo movies, based on each of the three novels.
Now while they'd have to get past the video-game-to-movie curse, it has been done before. The Resident Evil series has found film success, and I thought Hitman turned out pretty good. Otherwise, movies based on video games seems to be a dead market. However, I am interested to see how Halo would look on the big screen, and if a trilogy is planned, hopefully it can make it through all three movies. The games had a pretty good plot, and I can only assume the books do as well. Will it translate to a movie, though? Or will it be a mostly action/violence movie and lose it's crowd, except for the hardcore fans? Hopefully they don't pull a Prince of Persia, spend $200 million, and flop in the box office.

What is the deal with adapting the books instead of the games? First Myst, and now Halo. People want to see what they experienced in the game!
You mean Stuart Beattie, not Beattle.
Yeah, my bad on that typo.
also typo fire day
you mean first day
The commercials show great promise of a movie.
As for adapting the game, you cant jsut make the game into a movie, it fails that way, the medium does not allow you to compress a 40 hour fps into a 2 hour movie for the masses. You can however set a movie in the same universe and give it a story, ALA hitman and the resident evils.
Just have to keep as much right as you can.
