Are you tired of seeing remakes and reboots? No? Well good, because Deadline Hollywood reports that Warner Brothers has greenlit the remake of the 1939 classic, Wizard of Oz. The film will be adapted from the original script.

Robert Zemeckis was approached to direct the film but has subsequently turned it down as he is currently working on a Yellow Submarine among other projects. The interesting thing in all this is that Disney is also planning to make a Wizard of Oz prequel called, Oz, the Great and Powerful. Sam Raimi will direct the film.
If you still want more Oz, there is an animated sequel planned called Dorothy of Oz which will release in 2012. I'm not sure why there's all of a sudden a renewed focus into the Wizard of Oz property but I guess it does fall under the category of widely known and easily monetizable to make it a prime candidate for financial success. Still, thats a whole lot of Oz films releasing in 2012 and 2013.

Good. Freaking. Lord. Who is stupid enough to try and remake this classic?
I thought I'd remind you about the plans to turn the Broadway musical Wicked into a movie as well, and then I realized I already did.
