First 'Hop' Poster Shows Off Russell Brand as Animated Easter Bunny

The first poster for the "Russell Brand Easter Bunny comedy" (yes, you read that correctly) Hop was released via Facebook this morning.  The film is being produced by Universal Pictures' Illumination Entertainment, the guys behind this year's surprisingly good Despicable Me, but that seems to be the only good thing going for it.

Tim Hill of Alvin and the Chipmunks infamy is directing the live action/animation mash-up from a script by Cinco Paul, Ken Daurio, and Brian Lynch.  The official synopsis is as follows:

From the creators of Despicable Me comes Hop, the comic tale of Fred (James Marsden), an out-of-work slacker who accidentally injures the Easter Bunny (voiced by Russell Brand) and must take him in as he recovers. As Fred struggles with the world’s worst houseguest, both will learn what it takes to finally grow up. The live-action / animated film is helmed by Tim Hill, director of the blockbuster Alvin & the Chipmunks and produced by Chris Meledandri’s Illumination Entertainment (Despicable Me).

Well that sounds... fun?  Normally I would say, "At least it's got Russell Brand," but in this case it really doesn't.  Part of Brand's charm as an actor is his physical comedy, and as an animated rabbit we won't be getting that.

And on top of everything, the film co-stars the aforementioned James Marsden, Kaley Cuoco, and Chelsea Handler.  Fuuuuun?...

Hop hops into theaters April 1, 2011.  Just in time for Easter.

PS-  Apparently the Easter Bunny moonlights as a drummer in a garage band?
