Friday, December 10, 2010 at 12:13PM Fearless Forecast: 'The Chronicles of Narnia' Sails to the Top Spot
This weekend features two major release films in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader and The Tourist. Opening at 3,555 theaters nationwide, Chronicles of Narnia is a shoo-in for the top spot attracting all ages.

If you remember, the last installment, Prince Caspian opened at $55 million. However, the buzz on this film just doesn't feel right. Also, the series has been trending downward in social media figures and sales. Couple that with the fact that we're just coming off the worst November month in 15 years, this installment of Narnia is headed to become the worst grossing movie of the franchise. Still, the worst grossing for this franchise isn't all that bad. Expect Narnia to pull in $35 million this weekend.
The other major release is The Tourist starring powerhouse celebrities Johnny Depp, and Angelina Jolie. However, the reviews have been terrible earning only 16% on Rotten Tomatoes and 1 out of 5 Abiding Dudes on yours truly, GTBP (Click Here to see the review). Expect Depp and Jolie to earn their paychecks as the film will still do north of $20 million due to the star power.
In related news, Black Swan expands to 90 theaters this weekend so go check that out if you can, and The Fighter and The Tempest releases in four and five theaters, respectively. Next week, The Fighter will be released at 2,200 locations.
Here is our top 5 estimates for this weekend:
1. The Chronicles of Narnia - $35 million
2. The Tourist - $ 22 million
3. Tangled - $13 million
4. Harry Potter 7 - $9.5 million
5. Unstoppable - $3.5 million

At least they lowered the budget significantly on Narnia, so it should have a better chance at making it's money back.
Has Fox greenlit the fourth movie yet, or is Narnia still in a wait and see holding pattern?
As far as I know, it's a wait and see. Probably waiting just until after this one shows any sort of success.
