Friday, December 10, 2010 at 3:03AM First 'Thor' Poster Hints at Tone
Today we get our first look at the teaser poster for Kenneth Branagh's upcoming Thor. Combined with the trailer description from earlier today, it seems that Thor's marketing campaign is about to heat up.

The poster gives me the impression that the film may take a more serious tone than we're used to from the other Marvel superhero movies. See what I mean below.

I really like the stylized color palette used here. The washed-out colors of everything but the cape really draws your attention to it. It actually kind of reminds me of Schindler's List, but obviously I don't expect Thor to be that serious.
The one thing I don't like is that the hammer Thor (Chris Hemsworth) is holding looks cartoonishly huge. I know in the comics it's big, but with the apparent attempt to go for a more "realistic" feel for this movie—and the somber feeling this poster evokes—it doesn't seem to fit.
Thor is scheduled to hit theaters May 6, 2011. I'm sure we'll see a lot more of it between now and then.
