Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at 10:01AM Who Will Play 'Snow White'? Universal's Shortlist
If you haven't heard, Universal is planning to one-up Relativity Media version of Snow White by putting their version of the film on fast track. Relativity Media has been planning Snow White for a long time. In fact, they purchased the script from Melisa Wallack back in April, and recently closed a deal with Tarsen Singh who will direct the film. It is reported that Relativity is going after Natalie Portman to play the role of Snow White.
You might know Riley Keough but I bet you don't know the other three on the list
Universal's project is named, Snow White and the Hunstman which looks to be a very different take by focusing on the huntsman character (who is sent to the forest to kill Snow White) while Relativity's will be more of the traditional family friendly version. So who's on Universal's shortlist?
1. Riley Keough
Now you might be thinking, "I don't know any of these actresses". Interestingly enough, the studio initially thought about going after the big names in Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning, but like Alice in Wonderland, their preference right now is to go with someone who is a relatively unknown but solid actress so the film's main focus is on the story rather than a big Hollywood name. But don't worry if that's your thing as Charlize Theron is currently in talks to play the evil queen.
So which version will be the better one? My money is on Universal's. Their version seems intriguing and interesting rather than the same old played out story. At the same time, Melisa Wallack's script is suppose to be a much edgier and modern remake.

Wow, way to be on top of the Golden Globe nominations today. This Riley Keough/Alicia Vikander update does some more topical.
I like the first three options on the shortlist for Universal's Snow White, though each one by appearances would bring something completely different to the table. i think Felicity Jones would bring a bit of a Smarter, more regal attitude towards the part, while Bella Heathcote would bring more of an Innocence to the roll. And if it's a more of a rougher or passionate sort of player you want (Ala Kristen Stewart in the "Twilight" series) I think Riley Keough would be perfect. Good choices, it'll be interesting to see which way they go.
Anyone but kristen... PLEASE Snow White isn't emo!!
