Friday, December 17, 2010 at 11:05PM The 'Tron Guy' Reviews 'TRON: Legacy'

In case you hadn't noticed, a little movie called TRON: Legacy was released today. And, in a stroke of genius, the geniuses over at WiReD Magazine invited the self-proclaimed "Tron Guy" to review Disney's new sequel.
So what did Jay Maynard, computer programmer/system administrator/virtual space warrior, think of the film? Hit the jump to find out.
"As the credits rolled, I had to fight off tears" says Maynard. And those would be tears of joy of course.
“I walked in, expecting to be blown away both from what I’d seen before and from what I knew about the production. I was not disappointed.” … “… the result is visually stunning, intellectually engaging and emotionally exhausting.” … “There’s plenty of eye candy for even the most jaded addict. The score by Daft Punk is outstanding.” … “With all of this, many folks would expect the story to suffer. It doesn’t, unless you’re a movie critic. It’s a logical continuation of the original, although you need not have seen Tron to understand what’s happening now. Strong performances by Jeff Bridges, Garrett Hedlund, Olivia Wilde and Michael Sheen should prevent the kind of complaints about wooden acting that surrounded the original movie. The result delivers an unexpected emotional impact, especially at the ending.”
So there you have it, an honest (although probably a little biased) reaction to one of the biggest films of the year. While I can't say my thoughts on Legacy one way or the other yet, because I'll be seeing it after writing this post, I'm hoping to enjoy it at least a fraction as much as Maynard.
Oh, and possibly my favorite part of Maynard's review is where he virtually begs Disney to be a part of the planned third TRON film. And, with as much fervor as he spoke of this sequel I will speak now when I say that after the amount of crap this guy has probably had to deal with walking around in the original Tron suit, a walk-on role in the next film is the least this guy deserves. So where do I start his Facebook campaign?
