Biopics are all the rage in Hollywood right now with Leonardo DiCaprio signed on to play J. Edgar Hoover in Clint Eastwood's J. Edgar and Daniel Day Lewis set to fill the shoes of President Abraham Lincoln in the Lincoln biopic. The biopic movie news of the day is that the next Spiderman a.k.a rising star Andrew Garfield will play the role of famous Spanish Civil War photographer Robert Capa in a biopic for director Michael Mann, according to Total Film.
Gemma Arterton, who recently starred opposite Jake Gyllenhaal in Prince of Persia: Sands of Time will play Capa's love interest, Gerda Taro in the film. The script is expected to follow the acclaimed novel "Waiting for Robert Capa", specifically highlighting his time shooting the Spanish Civil War.
I'm not as excited about this biopic as the others I've previously mentioned, though I do appreciate Michael Mann's work behind the camera. I was impressed with Garfield's performance in The Social Network and liked his selection as the next Spidey, but other than those instances I know very little about him as an actor. Then again, I know next to nothing about Robert Capa, so I'll have time to do my homework on both before this movie is released.
No official filming dates have been announced for the Capa biopic yet. With the cast and director in place it should only be a short amount of time before they are.
