Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at 3:05PM 'The Empire Strikes Back' Among 25 Great Films Added to The National Film Registry
It's not very often we take a look back at older films here at Get the Big Picture, but today will be the special exception to that unwritten rule. Apparently since 1989, each year the Library of Congress selects 25 films it deems "culturally, historically and aesthetically significant" to add to the National Film Registry, according to cinemablend.com.
One of my all-time favorites, and easily my favorite movie of the Star Wars trilogy, The Empire Strikes Back leads the pack of the 25 films selected this year.

Other notable classics made the cut as well, like the late Leslie Nielsen's spoof Airplane!, and in my opinion the scariest horror movie ever The Exorcist. The Pink Panther and the political drama All the President's Men also made its list.
George Lucas appears on the list twice as his student film Electronic Labryinth: THX 1138 4EB was also selected.
Kudos to the National Film Registry for helping preserve all of these culturally important film titles. These movies may have been released in the past, but they will never be forgottten. It also seems like a fitting farewell to Leslie Nielsen and The Empire Strikes Back director Irvin Kershner, who both passed away earlier this year.
Here's the entire list of movies selected to the National Film Registry courtesy of Deadline. Feel free to scold me at the end of the list if I failed to include one of your favorite movies among the notable classics.
Airplane! (1980)
All the President's Men (1976)

Airplane! And The Empire Strikes Back are awesome, glad they made this list.
Blake Edwards passed away too and it seems fitting that The Pink Panther is selected.
