The 2009 Razzie Award Nominations

The worst of the year will be "honored" at the Razzie Awards, which are handed out the night before the Oscars. I still contend that the second best performance of Halle Berry's life was showing up to suffer the slings and arrows for Catwoman. That was downright a very cool move. This year, any number of nominees could take the top prizes, but I don't expect any of them to actually show up. As in previous years, this isn't exactly a thoroughly researched list of the worst of the year, but rather a dog pile. They just select movies that were the butts of a lot of jokes and nominate them multiple times, so you see plenty of Transformers, G.I. Joe, All About Steve, and Land of the Lost. This time around, as a special treat, we get the nominees for a decade of futility, so the worst film, actor, and actress of the past ten years will be handed out on Razzie night, too. Worst Picture

Oh god, Chris Klein in Street Fighter was one of the worst performances I've ever seen in a mainstream film, ever, which I was just reminded of.

Paul Blart is nowhere near the worst movie of 2009, a reflection of just how bad a year it was. Again, they do tend to pick a handful of movies and pound on them in as many categories as possible. The Chris Klein thing is inexcusable, though, and frankly, so is omitting Street Fighter and Dragonball. G.I. Joe is demonstrably better than both of those and Sienna Miller was actually pretty good, all things considered.
