We should expect a verdict this week or next week at the latest on whether or not Warner Bros. will release Clash of the Titans in 3-D. The tests have reportedly gone very well on the selected scenes the studio amped up into 3-D, and we heard from a source that should know that the real issue isn't even whether or not Warner wants to do 3-D (otherwise there wouldn't be test scenes) but rather whether or not there's time to convert the film by the March 26h release date or if it's worth moving that date for the possible financial gain 3-D provides.

How much can 3-D help? Well, look at Avatar. Sure, it also has the advantage of IMAX and an astounding amount of repeat viewings, but the all-time box office champ is only 26th in total ticket sales. How's that for an added dimension? Yes, its 76 million ticket sales is still quite good and it will vault into the top 20, but if you're looking for one title Titanic will still hold over James Cameron's new film, that's the one. It has 128 million tickets sold, and there's no way Cameron sells 50 million more tickets at this point. The real record belongs to Gone With the Wind with 202 million. Probably safe, don't you think?
Yes, Avatar tickets are much more expensive than Gone With the Wind or Star Wars or E.T. or even Titanic. And that's exactly why the studios really want 3-D right now: Even higher ticket prices than normal means you don't have to sell quite as many tickets. And if it's roughly $15 million to make a standard 2-D movie into 3-D, your blockbuster pays for the conversion with under two million tickets sold. So if Warners can release this in 3-D without pushing the movie into a disadvantageous territory, it will.
And now...the international trailer for what may be a 3-D Clash of the Titans:

I read on Wikipedia that Titanic will be re-released sometime in 2011 in 3D. If this is true then it probably takes back its records from Avatar. Also heard that all the Star Wars movies might be re-released again in 3D. Is it really fair that everyone is now saying that Avatar is not the true king of the box office because of the average ticket price is so much higher than movies in the past. Maybe down the road Avatar can be re-released multiple times to drive up its ticket sales. The point is that Avatar didn't have the amount of time that these other films had to sell its tickets. Yes it makes more because of the ticket prices but it also suffers more because of the home market being so big. Lets count in DVD sales and see who the real king is. How many DVD's has Gone With The Wind sold? Avatar has done what has done in 45 days. Gone With Wind was in theaters for how many years? Lets give Avatar a year or two and see how many tickets it sells. Just my way of looking at it i guess, but i believe it is the king of the box office
It won't be in threaters for that long, it has to come out on DVD soon to make more money before the hype dies.
I know common thats the point i'm trying to make. Everyone is now saying Avatar is not the "King of the box office" because its made so much money from the ticket prices being so high. My point is that movies like Gone With The Wind and Star Wars and even Titanic had the benefit of being in theaters for a year or more then being re-released(Titanic not yet). Some being re-released numerous times. Avatar has done this in 45 days. Let it stay in theaters for a year or more and see where it ends up on the inflation adjusted chart. That or add in DVD sales and see where they all end up. My guess is Gone With The Wind will have a bit of a drop in chart position because i'm pretty sure the DVD sales are not very high for it.
