Friday, February 26, 2010 at 10:10PM Second 'Nightmare on Elm Street' Trailer
Maybe it's because I've seen the original Nightmare on Elm Street quite a few times, but some of the stops pulled out here in the latest
trailer for the reboot are awfully familiar. Homage or outright rip-off? Does it even factor in with a remake?

For the sake of discussion, let's go with homage. I say that because, as you watch the trailer and you get more accustomed to Jackie Earle Haley as
Freddy Krueger, you'll realize that it anything but an imitation of Robert Englund. Even though Freddy was more sinister in the original
Nightmare than in subsequent movies - in which he was spouted more one-liners than Jerry Orbach in Law & Order marathon - this new spin
is way dark. He's not joking around.
See what you think; it looks very polished, which is in total opposition to Craven's first film, shot for under $2 million back in 1984. Of course, now
with digital technology, $2 million can go a lot further for you, but it was pretty bare bones back then.

It opens April 30th, and I can't wait to see what Haley brings to it. That alone may be reason enough to orchestrate a remake.

I have seen ALL of the Nightmare on Elm Street movies, & @ least for now I am STRICTLY dedicated to Robert Englund. I am having an ENORMOUS problem seeing ANYONE else as Freddy Kruger...That being said, the trailor does portray Haley as a MUCH darker version. It may be that I come around to eating these words. I am not one who can't admit being wrong. Until the movie is out & I have actually seen more than just a "snippet" of what it will be, I am sticking to my loyalties where they lie. I LOVED Robert Englund & EVERY SINGLE ONE of his portrayals of Kruger. It'll take a LOT to sway that opinion.
I'm still very much on the fence about this one and, try as I might, I can't get the Englund version out of mind. The look and the voice are more a distraction than I thought they would be. While there's enough here to wax nostalgic about as you curl up in your old red and green blood-stained sweater... it's just too obvious that this isn't your good old Freddy. It does look very polished which may have been a mistake as it takes away from that certain down to earth grit the original used to pull the audience in. I just wonder how well this will ultimately do, retreads of old horror movie icons don't seem to hold up well compared to the originals overall.
Love the Orbach reference although I was thinking more Richard Belzer for that.
I like the potential of having Jackie Haley as Freddy. However even seeing that Michael Bay is associated with this movie is a total turn off. I already feel like the girls in this movie were auditioned by dancing on the strip pole in his bathroom, and that Freddy will have a wise cracking, jive talking twin he's constantly (and obnoxiously) quarreling with throughout the movie.
I sure hope i'm wrong.
