Sunday, February 28, 2010 at 10:39PM Banks Linked to Bradley Cooper's 'Dark Fields'
So what's Elizabeth Banks up to these days? Not enough, of course, but she did have a pretty packed 2008. There are a few projects in the future, but she's been a more frequent TV guest star lately than in cineplexes.

Coming Soon has received a tip - just a tip - that Banks could play the female lead in Neil Burger's Dark Fields, opposite Bradley Cooper. That's all pretty good news if it happens as billed. Burger directed The Illusionist and the story's pretty cool. It's also not a bad time to hitch your wagon to anyone associated with The Hangover, and this gives Cooper a really substantial dramatic role in which to prove himself.
The film will be based on Alan Glynn's novel about a writer who starts taking a smart drug - basically Viagra for the brain - and it starts to have unexpected effects. The book is narrated by Cooper's character, which is an easy device for a filmmaker to rely on. Some people hate narration in movies, and it is really convenient way to go. But in the right hands, it can also be very effective.
This news about Banks has not been confirmed by Universal, but this has the markings of a project to watch. There are a couple other major roles yet to be cast, but since Coming Soon lists several key crew members already lined up, I'd say this is pretty close to heading into production.
Also: Burger will be directing what I can only assume is a new version of Bride of Frankenstein. Hard to imagine another film using that title, but he has it listed on his filmography. File that away.
