Sunday, February 28, 2010 at 6:14AM Dermot Mulroney Lands 'Rockford' Role for NBC
I'm leery of this: Dermot Mulroney as Jim Rockford. In case you hadn't heard, The Rockford Files is one of the many TV remakes heading to the networks these days, and while I loved the original series and don't mind an update, I just don't get a James Garner vibe from Mulroney.
Maybe I'm not supposed to. To be sure, it's not a commodity that's in stock everywhere. The Hollywood Reporter says the new version will feature a Rockford that is "slightly crumpled, wry humored, cynical, world weary, compassionate when it's called for and easily irritated by morons." Not exactly the same description, but close enough.
Here's the issue: The Rockford Files is going to be on NBC's fall schedule, and nothing against Mulroney, but this sounds like a rather uninspired choice. NBC doesn't need more of those. It didn't help Knight Rider, that's for sure. There are some positives - The first show was written by David Shore, who created House, and Shore and Steve Carell are co-executive producing the series.
I hope I speak for a lot of people when I saw I'd like to see them use the Mike Post theme song again. That's one of the all-time classics.

Not the only one. Joe Flanigan would have been the much better choice for this role!!!
