Thursday, February 4, 2010 at 12:39PM 'Captain America' Casting Just Weeks Away
One more Captain America update from director Joe Johnston, and it's an update about a future update. The all-important casting, he says, is just weeks away.

Johnston tells Sci Fi wire, “We have a very short list, but we’re still juggling actors here. I’d say within the next couple of weeks we’ll have ourselves a Captain America, I hope.” Who's on that short list is still not known.
Having said that, there are a few logical suggestions. Jeremy Renner seems like a good place to start. He's a freshly minted Oscar nominee, and though he probably won't win the Academy Award, this is the perfect window of opportunity for him, and for the producers to choose him. The only problem is, he'd be almost 41 by the time the movie came out.
I'd heard Channing Tatum once upon a time, but he may be strapped to G.I. Joe. In any case, there are a lot of similarities there. Will Smith was the most bizarre rumor that made the rounds, but that won't happen. You can't afford Smith, Downey, villains, and everything else for an Avengers movie. A few TV kids have thrown their own names around - a practice I hate - but I do think Marvel will go with someone noteworthy compared to Thor's hiring of the relatively unknown Chris Hemsworth.
Pre-Bourne, I'd say Matt Damon would be the best pick. But we're not pre-Bourne, although if they'd look at Renner, you'd be foolish not to look at Damon, who won't be Jason Bourne for a few more years, if ever again. I dunno, frankly. They've done a good job keeping a lid on all of this and there are plenty of ways they could go.
I suppose we'll find out in a couple of weeks, huh? Good timing, too: Johnston will be looking for positive press after The Wolfman finally comes to theaters.

Captain America is definatly the hardest marvel hero to cast. they HAVE to get it right too.
Gotta be Jon Hamm.
Jeremy Renner doesnt look his age at all so I dont know why that would matter. He seems to be in better shape than most people his age and younger and I think would be the perfect person for the role.
So if this Captain America movie is supposed to play around WWII. Wouldn't it need to be a new/different Captain for the Present Day Avengers movie?
i think josh duhamel is a good fit
Jason - Apparently that transfer between WWII and the modern world will take place within this movie, if I understand the most recent round of comments correctly. Probably just a bookend to bring him into the present. It's a bad way to do it, I'll admit, but what do you expect when they built from Avengers backwards?
Actually, you have the movie start in WWII and then his plane crashes and he freezes just like in the books. Then you have the hulk deleted scene free him and the iceberg get found blah blah blah. Starting it is WWII makes total sense. It is just like starting Iron Man with the origin story, but putting it in the right war, as opposed to Afghanistan like they did for Iron man.
I'd rather punch myself in the crotch than go see this movie iif Josh Duhamel ends up as Cap.
I'm exaggerating... but man, does he suck.
