Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at 3:29AM Soderbergh, Damon Catch a 'Contagion'
It's been an odd few months for Steven Soderbergh. He went from the four-hour bio-pic of Che Guevara to a movie starring a real
life porn star (both Sasha Grey and The Girlfriend Experience got good reviews) to being forcibly removed from Moneyball literally
hours before cameras were to start rolling to the mini-comeback The Informant! to yet another change of direction.

The Playlist says that Soderbergh is putting on hold another bio-pic (that Liberace movie with Matt Damon and Michael Douglas in the title role),
but this time, it seems like a really good reason. Soderbergh is tackling a script by Informant! writer Scott Z. Burns called
Contagion. The site reports that the script is a globetrotting action thrilla about a viral outbreak that is described as "terrifying."
That alone might be worth it. But check out the propsed cast: Damon, Kate Winslet, Marion Cotillard, and Jude Law. For a time, Law made just about every movie
he was in immediately better. That vanished after he found some success, but I think he's back on track. Damon and Winslet do consistently great
work that audiences and critics alike rally behind. Cotillard...if you don't know, now you know. She's the real deal and the only reason to see
Nine.
Another point in this film's favor is that Burns co-wrote The Bourne Ultimatum, so he has the Damon stamp of approval. That could be important in terms of securing the rest of the staff, all of whom are presumed to be in the final stages of negotiations. Damon has, for a few years, been ranked as one of the best bargains in Hollywood. His movies make a ton of money when weighed against what he gets paid. And because he has that trust from the audience, it's a wagon other actors are eager to hitch themselves to.
So why take this on now? Why not wait until the Liberace movie, already in pre-production, wraps up? Apparently, there are more virus movies a-comin', and Soderbergh didn't want to be late to the party. Of course, if Outbreak is on cable somewhere, maybe he's already late. But that's beside the point: If the script works as well as it sounds, with that cast...look out.

While I'm not too optimistic about the plot that you & The Playlist seem to be, the cast is shaping out to be phenomenol....
If this does come together it will be really impressive....
Soderbergh for those who already didnt know is becoming if he hasnt already been THE DIRECTOR to work with, & an extremely good director as well...
I'am too excited & its nice to see Jude Law back on track he is a great talent
Well, Sean, I don't know that the plot itself is anything to get excited about. Few of them are. But plot and story aren't really the same thing. So, having read The Informant! and seeing what Burns was able to do with a huge book, completely changing so many things about it, I'll give him plenty of rope here, especially with the cast and a director who just realized one of his visions so well.
