Thursday, March 11, 2010 at 7:31AM Man Stabbed During Showing of 'Shutter Island'
Strange things happen in the dark. Witness the still-unsolved events of two weeks ago at a Cinemark theater in
Lancaster, California. A man attending a screening of Shutter Island was attacked after complaining about a fellow patron using
her cell phone during the movie.

Here is a summary of the incident from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, as reported in The Los Angeles Times:

"The theater was packed for a 9pm Saturday screening of the Martin Scorsese horror movie when the victim complained about a woman near him who was using a cellphone during the show. She and two men with her left the movie theater. Two men returned a few minutes later and stabbed the victim."You might think that is extreme and a little unusual. But wait: The victim was stabbed in the neck with a meat thermometer. Two other people in attendance, coming to the aid of the victim, were also injured during the altercation. First of all, what the hell kind of short fuse do you have if you stab someone in the neck for telling your friend to show common courtesy and get off her cell phone during a movie? Forget for a minute that it's also a really good movie you have to pay attention to, and just ask yourself how far you'd carry that grudge. Maybe you're so easily irritated that you storm out of the theater. But how many of us would go get a weapon and come back, not to threaten the guy but to actually stab him in a very dangerous area? Secondly, what the hell kind of asshole are you if you can't get your point across short of plunging a meat thermometer into someone's neck? What a waste of space. The attackers are still on the loose, no doubt contributing mightily to society. If you know anything about the attack, please get in touch with the Lancaster sheriff's station at 661.948.8466.

Well put Colin, couldn't have said it better myself. Whatever happened to the rumor that theatres were going to install some sort of device that rendered cell phones useless during showtimes? Was that just something that my friends and I dreamed of or is that still going to happen?
They have the cell-phone jamming theaters in Japan and I can't wait for the day we see them on the shores of the U.S. The big reason I've stopped going to theaters so much and am watching more movies On Demand is because the civility of patrons has plunged in the last 10 years or so. If there was a theater where they had bouncers in auditoriums ready to remove patrons who texted or talked during a screening I'd pay an extra few bucks to catch a show there.
i remember a guy shooting another guy in a movie in front of the second guys kids. for being too loud. then the dude sat down and waited for the cops to show up
Wichita, KS has a theatre that after a certain time you have to be 23 or 25 to enter, I can't remember which one. It's the best theatre I've ever been to. I know that adults can be rude @ the theatre from time to time, but keeping the younger crowd out really helps.
This man happens to be a friend of mine. I am appalled by the comments posted on several websites regarding the use of a meat thermometer as a weapon in his attack. This man is a son of Christ and I pity those who are responsible for harming him, and those of you who are making a mockery of it. He almost lost his life and is not yet in the clear. God have mercy.
let me guess the guy that nearly killed a man is black....dumb stirgils
They were already going to "Special Hell"* whats a stabbing going to matter
*special hell is reserved for child rapists and people who talk during a movie.
