Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at 7:13AM Mark Millar Promises 'Kick-Ass' Sequel
After its big debut at SXSW (that's what cool people who are in a hurry call South By Southwest, even though the abbreviation is actually longer if you sound it out), Kick-Ass begins its pre-release phase of marketing and promotion meaning, if Lionsgate does its job right, you won't be able to escape it for about a month.
But writer Mark Millar hopes you won't be able to escape it after that, either. He tells Film School Rejects that a follow-up is already unavoidable. "There will be a sequel. There’s just no doubt about it...it’s not being cocky with it," Millar says.
"I love it. Everyone I know is really happy with it...and we could do a sequel relatively inexpensively.”
He's right about that last part; director Matthew Vaughn financed Kick-Ass with no studio support (because they were loathe to get involved with a project depicting so much teenage profanity and violence...until it looked profitable), so Vaughn, Millar, and company should just repeat the process to make the sequel and sell it to a studio again. Why not?
We'll have to see how the first one goes, but I think it's probably going to do pretty well, well enough to warrant a sequel, at any rate.

The only factor prohibiting the sequel would be if Kick-Ass somehow bombs (and I have a feeling that it probably won't), because *SPOILER ALERT* the original comic blatantly sets up a sequel.
This Kick-Ass review I found has great insights on everything from the level of entertainment to the quality of story development and filming. Check it out - http://bit.ly/amtXd9
