A few days ago, Warner Bros. honcho Alan Horn said all of his studio's tentpole movies will be released in 3-D.
That's a money move, primarily. In a few instances, there will be perfectly legitimate artistic reasons for it, meaning the film is shot
in 3-D, but as long as people think the conversion process from standard 2-D to 3-D is the same thing as Avatar, plenty of studios
will try to showcase the next Alice in Wonderland.

Clash of the Titans is the guinea pig for Warners, and it was going to do well, anyway. This is one of those instances where it
will just earn significantly more because it will sell hundreds of thousands if not millions of tickets at $3 or $4 more a pop. So do the
math. And the studio had to race to get the 3-D conversion done, announcing it (and delaying the release date by a week) just about two
months ago.
These clips aren't in 3-D, obviously, but some of them point out why Warner Bros. thinks the film and the conversion are woth the extra investment.

It's well-timed, coming a month away from both Alice and Iron Man. That's plenty of time for Titans to make all that extra 3-D coin.

I'm still pissed about the announcement that all WB tentpole movies will be released in 3D even if they are not shot in it/won't benefit from the format.
But what to do you expect from the company once owned by Ted "Colorization" Turner?
It is discouraging that the sucess of Avatar has translated to "people love 3D." I recently watched Alice In Wonderland in 3D and it was good, but not nearly as smooth and subtle as the 3D technology from Cameron's film. And this is a movie that was shot in 3D and is it's intended format.
Two things: First, it makes me appreciate Avatar even more (although the script still sucked).
And secondly, it makes me worry that the 3D "upconversion" process on things like Clash of the Titans may actaully be more of a nusience than an enhancement. I was interested in seeing it and will probably go see the "flat" version.
I sure hope Hollywood doesn't shoot itself in the foot on this one like it so often does.
According to an article in Popular Mechanics, Alice actually wasn't shot with stereoscopic cameras but was converted afterwards. Apparently Burton felt with all the special effects it was easier to go the 2D to 3D route.
I haven't heard anything so far, but I'm getting worried that WB is gonna convert Inception to 3D.
Clash of the Titans, hmmmm. I do really like to see it just to see Sam Worthington again plus his full action character. :D
