Saturday, March 27, 2010 at 2:14PM Angelina Interested in Burton's 'Maleficent'?
Tim Burton has been linked to Maleficent, a Disney retelling of the Sleeping Beauty story from the perspective of the evil fairy godmother. Of course, when the Alice in Wonderland director was also connected to 3-D stop-motion animated Addams Family, his reps were quick to point out that he hadn't made a decision on his next project.

There are a few to choose from and thanks to the success of Alice - about $700 million by the end of this weekend - Burton can call his own shot and be given plenty of studio money to get it made. He is, of course, a natural choice for Maleficent, which we're guessing would be live-action or an Alice-like hybrid.
It's a plum role for an actress, meaning that one of the top movie stars in the world might be interested. The Los Angeles Times says Angelina Jolie is "keen on the film," which is probably not the way she's expressed her feelings to anyone born in the 20th century. It's definitely something she could play, and she's also one of the few who could draw a crowd (nothing personal, but most actresses can't open blockbuster movies). And if you thought Angie and Billy Bob were a freaky couple, what about Jolie and Burton? Out there.
As good as it sounds, The Times says, "There's no deal (or, for that matter, script) yet. And it's unclear if Jolie's involvement would be conditional on Burton moving forward with it too." That script, incidentally, will be written by Disney animated vet Linda Woolverton.
Disney reportedly wants to snowball this movie pretty quickly, and I can't say I blame the studio here. If it's Burton, there's no better time than now to get started, and if this is the only window to get Angelina Jolie, well...you kind of have to kill two birds with one stone here.
