Want to see a Johnny Depp cameo in the new 21 Jump Street movie? So does he, apparently. Depp tells
Entertainment Weekly that he not only has no problem being considered for a walk-on in the movie version of a TV show he couldn't
run away from fast enough, but he's also volunteering.

The film is a big deal for Jonah Hill, who's co-writing and producing, with the intention of making it an R-rated flick. "We’re not even
spoofing [the show]," Hill said last year. "It’s not strictly comedic, either. We’re doing a full-on action movie, blowing shit up.”
Sounds good to Depp: "I'm hoping they'll let me do a cameo," Depp admitted. "Someone will say, 'Whatever happened to Tom Hanson?' and they'll find me somewhere hoarding jars of peanut butter and shaking in my underpants."
I think this remake could be a good idea, Depp or not. Because the qualities of the show only go so far 25 years later, taking it to another extreme could allow the filmmakers to keep what little structure from the series that they need and then completely reconfigure it. From that perspective, a cameo may do a disservice, but I'm sure most people would just overlook it. The producers may top that list.
